Project # 3 Outline

The proposal I am makiing is the banning of abortion in the United States. Abortion should be made illegal in all of its forms. Abortion is essentially the legalization of the murder of thousands of infants every year. This is a major issue. We are killing off our greatest resource; that is the human life and the human mind. This is affecting everybody in the country. We have most likely aborted the child that would have grown up to cure cancer.

Why are we allowing this? How is murder a right? People have the option of adoption. Even a little bit of responsibility for your actions is in that option. But not murder, because that is exactly what it is. The Roe v.s. Wade decision will be used to help support my proposal.

This issue has existed for decades and is often a topic in political debates. I feel this practice of abortion should be outlawed. That is the only solution. I have yet to collect much research for this paper so I am much lacking in that department. Many people feel it is a right though to have the child they created murdered because they cant handle the consequences of their actions. This just isnt so.

eco lifestyle

After taking the carbon footprint test, my initial score was a 4.6. I rarely drive long distances and never fly. I try to recycle and dispose of my trash properly as well. The main flaw I had that was most devastating to the environment that I live in was my eating habits. So in the 24 hour period we had to reduce or affect on the environment i adjusted my eating habits. I did not eat any meat or eggs in this period. I didn't even eat any bread. I strictly at ate fruit for this period of time. This was not really that costly either. It was actually cheaper than eating fast food.

24 Hours

Start
I started this assignment this weekend in my home town. I began Saturday morning at eight o' clock. On Saturday I ate breakfast and sat around the house until about 9:30. At 9:30 my mother and I took a one hour long drive to my grandmother's, who lives in a small rural town. We stayed here until about 6:30. During this time period we went to the family cemetary to clean it up a bit, I also completed a ritual of my childhood. I went walking through the surrounding woods for about three hours with a small firearm for protection. I reflected on the past year of my life while in the wilderness and thought of how quickly that year had passed. We got home at like 7 thirty. When back at home me and my mother played cards with my little sister for about an hour. At nine, we went to my dad's stepmoms house where my mom practiced singing for a group she is in and I stood by listening. I went to bed at the early hour of 11 o clock. I woke at 9:30 the next morning. The 24 hours was over. Without technology the world seemed more natural and pure. I focused more on nature and family while on the technology hiatus. I actually quite enjoyed this assignment. I only have one post because I had limited internet access this weekend in my hometown.

Next Four Years

An issue that I feel is going to greatly affect our lives in the next four years is the issue of abortion. This issue, though I am not a woman, this issue holds a close place in my heart. Millions of babies are murdered every year because it has been legalized. I think it is very likely that we have murdered the person who would have cured cancer. Many people who would have done amazing things have been removed from existence. I feel we are wasting our greatest resource. People need to move to have this issue confronted. People should not be murdered because other people lack the responsibilty to have safe sex.

Paper #2 thesis

The game Oblivion is a video game that uses ethics as a platform for the plot.

The game is a role playing game essentially giving the player the power to do whatever they want with their character, including making ethical decisions. In the game their are certain factions or guilds the player can join. A person showing bad ethics would join the thieves or assassins guild while a more ethical person would join the fighters or mages guilds.

Free Write on Articles

The gamespot.com review of the Harmonix game, Rockband 2, is very accurate in its presumptions. The article says that the first rockband game revolutionized the way music games were played, and this is very true. No console had ever introduced an instrument other that the guitar. Rockband brought forth the drums and the microphone. I agree with tha articles stance on the Rockband 2 tracklist as well. The songs are very much more mainstream than the last game's tracklist. But i also agree that some of the songs are boring and out of touch such as the Devo song "Uncontrollable Urge". This articles is a review and focuses on gameplay and how good or bad it is.

The IGN article focuses more ont the features of the game such as online capabilities. This article glorifies Rockband 2 in every way. Unlike the first article, this one doesn't mention any flaws with the game. It only states and lists parts of the game that have been upgraded and how good they feel these upgrades are. The article lists the new clothing available for "rockers" as well as the benefits of the new World Tour online.

Thesis and Outline

Thesis:

"Darfur is Dying" and "Click 4 Obama" are games that attempt to send a message, but do so ineffectively because of questionable motives, irrelevant information, a bad approach, and sketchy information.

Outline:

Introduction:

Games are one of the best forms of entertainment. The 3 different types of games are educatonal, persuasive, and advergames. "Darfur is Dying" is an educational game that places the player in the role of a refugee in Darfur. It attempts to show how it would be to live like a refugee in Darfur. "Click 4 Obama" is an educational and persuasive game. It's a trivia game that provides information on U.S. history but has th objective to win your support towards Barak Obama. Both games have flaws though, making them ineffective at sending their messages.

P1:

"Darfur is Dying" is a game that lets the player pick his or her character. They can choose from young and old, male and female. The player does tasks in the game such as foraging for water. While doing this though, the player must avoid being killed by the Janjaweed militia. The game provides links that explains the horrors the Janjaweed inflict on civilians. The problems in Darfur are very serious but making them into a game reduces its severity in the public eye. It distracts people from the real problem because they are more focused on how bad or good the game is. A different approach other than a video game is needed to tell the world of this problem.

P2:

The Click 4 Obama game is a very complex trivia game. It asks the player random American history questions and every time a question is answered correctly, the questons get harder. They also give 500 pixels of ad space on the internet for the Barak Obama campaign ads every time a question is answered correctly. The game wants the player to vote for Senator Obama but it doesn't provide information in the questions about him. During gameplay, only about 1 out of 10 questions mention Obama. The game provides to much irrelevant information about American history. Playing the game supports Obama, but the player isn't aware of the policies and views of the canidate he or she is supporting.

P3:

Both games need to take a different approach on sending their messages. "Darfur is Dying" doesn't need to be a game at all. Turning genecide into a game is the wrong way to get out information. "Click 4 Obama" is quite an easy fix. More questions in the trivia game need to be about Obama, his policies and his opposing canidates.

Conclusion:

These games, though enjoyable, are illogical.

Video Games Yellow..

While growing up and even today, I have loved video games. The Call of Duty games can be considered persuasive games because they effectively depict the atrocities of war. The graphic war images and battle scenes persuade players that war is horrible and that maybe they should rethink some of their views on war. As a child I loved sports games. The Madden games franchise is still used effectively as an advergame, probably unknowingly. Madden features recording artists and their songs every year on the game giving the band or solo artist more publicity. Billboards while playing in the football stadiums also advertise sponsors of the game. The game Scene It! is a very fun serious or educational game. It is essentially a trivia game on movies, sports, or whatever you want according to the edition of the game you purchase.

assigment

While exploring the game list, I found the Adult Swim Video Games and the BMW M3 Challenge to both fit into the genre of advergames. Both games or game web pages, fair well in advertising either the respective television show or the vehicle. These are advergames because of the advertisement nature of the games. They are very effective in making the gamer aware of the product but are far less educating than they are entertaining. The purpose for these games is not education which is necessary being that they are advergames.
